Mulanthuruthy Mar Thoman Church

This church is believed to be built between AD 1100 and 1125. Kunnassery Kunchakko Tharakan who was the minister of the king of Kaduthuruthy was instrumental in building this church.

The church is famous for its historical importance. Mulanthuruthy church was the venue of the famous Mulanthuruthy Syond in 1876 convened by the Holy patriarch of Antioch Peter III. The Late Lamented Patriarch Moran Mor Ignatius Yakoob III visited this church, during 1964. The present Patriarch Moran or Ignatius Zakka II was have visited the Church twice, during 1982 and 2000.

The altar of the church is a reminiscent of the Altar of the first Christian Church of the Syrian Orthodox Church at Jerusalem. That is why, the Church is called as the 2nd Jerusalem.

The church is already attracting pilgrims from the different part of the world. The murals and the tombs of different bishops are attractions for the spiritual and religious tourists. This church situated just 32 km away from Cochin International airport

Kanjiramattom Mosque

The mosque is situated at Kanjiramattom, 3 km from Mulanthuruthy . It is believed that the mosque was erected over the mortal remains of a Muslim saint, Sheikh Parid. Another great Muslim saint, Baver is supposed to have prayed here and attained salvation. The Kodikuthu festival, which falls in December-January, is a major attraction for thousands of devotees. A huge procession is held in the night, when the pilgrims carrying pots of sandalwood paste proceed to the mosque as part of a ritual called as ‘ Chandanakkudam’. Six caparisoned elephants and folk performances are the main attractions of the procession. Traditional Muslim art forms like ‘Oppana’ and ‘Mappilappattu’ are also staged during the festival. This is a spiritual tourism site because of its historical and religious importance.

Hill Palace

Thripunithura Hill palace, the largest archaeological museum in Kerala and the erstwhile official residence of the Kochi Royal Family, that was built in 1865. Hill Palace is situated at a distance of about 3 kms from Mulanthuruthy . The palace complex consists of 49 buildings in the traditional architectural style of Kerala and is surrounded by 52 acres of terraced land with ponds, fountains and lawns. A full fledged ethno archaeological museum and Kerala’s first ever Heritage museum are the main attractions here.

The oldest building in the complex is a single storeyed Kerala style ‘ettukettu’ constructed around 1850 AD with an adjacent pond, temple and urappura. The other buildings are a combination of traditional and western architecture. The latest construction was a three storeyed western style building constructed in 1950 which used to function as the office. Hill palace enjoys the status of an important destination for both international and domestic tourists.
